Hebrides: The Western Isles
My photographs are now from two holidays on the Western Isles: 2 mid-summer weeks in July 2014 when the Machair was in flower, and the first two weeks of May 2015 during a cool Spring. In 2014 we visited Barra, the Uists and Harris & Lewis; in May 2015 we visited the Uists, basing ourselves on North Uist (via a few days on Skye).
Balranald RSPB Reserve on North Uist was a hot spot for Corn Bunting, Corncrake, Twite and in May 2015 for the huge passage of Skuas, especially Long-tailed.
We also enjoyed day trips with resident naturalist Steve Duffield, for which many thanks for finding us special birds and flowers.
Thanks too to Nick Ingledew on Grimsay and his highly recommended trips on the 'Lady Anne' to see local wildlife along the coast and The Minch.
